As we commemorate Women’s History Month, National Social Work Month, and Equal Pay Day (March 14), it’s a fitting moment to reflect on the intersectionality of Urban Resource Institute’s (URI) mission and the pursuit of justice and equity.
During Women’s History Month “Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion,” we honor the contributions of women, especially those from marginalized communities, who have advocated for change. At URI, a person-of-color led organization with 72% female-identified staff, we prioritize centering their voices. Additionally, on March 8, International Women’s Day “Inspire Inclusion,” we celebrate women’s achievements and advancing gender equality worldwide.
National Social Work Month “Empowering Social Workers,” celebrates the invaluable contributions of social workers, who are often unsung heroes in our communities. At URI, many of our staff members are dedicated social workers who embody compassion and commitment to social justice, uplifting survivors and guiding families to brighter futures.
Equal Pay Day (March 14) serves as a stark reminder of the persistent gender wage gap that continues to plague our society. At URI, we proudly uphold principles of equity and fairness, not only in our advocacy work but also in our internal practices. We prioritize equity, ensuring that our team’s invaluable contributions are justly rewarded.
Our dedication to equity, empowerment, and equality shines through the comprehensive solutions we provide to end the cycles of domestic violence, homelessness, and trauma. From initiatives like People and Animals Living Safely (PALS), Economic Empowerment Program (EEP), Abusive Partner Intervention Program (APIP), Relationship Abuse Prevention Programs (RAPP) and Early Relationship Abuse Prevention Programs (ERAPP), to our overarching Blueprint for Change, we strive to effect lasting change that nurtures survivors and cultivates safer communities.
This March, let us recommit ourselves to advancing equity, empowerment, and equality, creating a future where everyone thrives. Thank you for your unwavering support.
In solidarity,
Nathaniel Fields
