Honoring AANHPI Leadership, Resilience, and Healing

May is Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month—a moment to celebrate the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of AANHPI communities across the nation. The 2025 theme, “A Legacy of Leadership and Resilience,” honors generations of AANHPI leaders who have carved pathways for future generations to thrive, often in the face of injustice, displacement, and erasure.

At Urban Resource Institute (URI), we uplift this legacy through action. We recognize that members of AANHPI communities are deeply affected by domestic violence and housing insecurity—often in silence due to cultural stigma, language barriers, and limited access to culturally appropriate services. That’s why we are committed to creating safe, trauma-informed spaces that reflect the diverse identities and lived experiences of every survivor we serve.

Our programs are guided by the belief that healing must be holistic and culturally responsive. From hiring staff that reflect the communities we support to ensuring language access and honoring cultural traditions in our shelters and services, URI is building a future where no one is left behind.

This month, and every month, we recommit to standing with AANHPI survivors, staff, and communities in their pursuit of dignity, safety, and justice. Together, we rise—lifting the legacy and leadership of those who came before us, and forging a more inclusive future for all.
