POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Urban Resource Institute (URI), a not-for-profit 501(c) (3) organization established in 1980, operates shelter, legal and job training programs for domestic violence victims, residential and vocational programs for individuals with developmental disabilities. With a $70-80 million annual budget with over 600 staff by the end of the year, URI promotes safety, justice, health, and independence for vulnerable individuals and families residing in New York City.

The Security Monitor provides overall facility monitoring and surveillance through regular facility rounds, maintains log of person entering and exiting the facility. Conducts fire drills and maintains log books on fire drill and emergency apparatus. The security staff also documents accounts of resident’s non-compliance of curfews, and other rules and regulations.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS, EDUCATION & ESSENTIAL SKILLS:
• Maintain a log of visitors entering and exiting the premises and record all unusual incidents per established procedures, while ensuring that only authorized personnel and visitors enter the property.
• Surveillance of the grounds, facility and activities of the residents to prevent theft and resident harm.
• Ensure that all doors from the facility are locked and secured.
• Monitor fire and safety procedures.
• Provide administrative support in the area of the office coverage, telephone and clerical work.
• Perform light maintenance responsibilities in the absence of maintenance staff.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.
• Function independently in term of facility coverage including responsibility for appropriate action in crisis situation per agency procedures.
• Meet with Security Supervisor for individual and group supervision, and training.
• Assist with delivery of supplies and furniture.
• Participate in monthly staff meetings and training seminars conducted to enhance and develop one’s skills.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
• High School Diploma or equivalency.
• Three years experience as a security monitor.
• Need to understand the issues of domestic violence and need of women and children,
• Experience working in a 24-hour residential facility, able to work with minimum supervision and as a team player.
• Valid NY State Registration as a Security Guard.
• Must have ability to be flexible with schedule as needed.
• Excellent written and verbal skills are required.
• Must be computer literate and must have knowledge of Microsoft office applications
