URI’s Nathaniel Fields Honored by City & State’s 2021 Responsible 100
NEW YORK – December 15, 2021 – City & State New York recognized Nathaniel Fields, Chief Executive Officer of Urban Resource Institute, in their 2021 Responsible 100. Fields was honored among leaders in the private and public sector who demonstrate extraordinary commitment to building a more socially responsible city.
“As a nonprofit social service provider, a commitment to socially responsible practices is not just integral to our mission, it is what drives us to go above and beyond to best serve our clients and our communities with holistic, innovative programs and services,” said Fields,. “I am honored to be included in City & State’s Responsible 100, and every day I am inspired by the remarkable URI team who believe in our mission and work towards our vision of a world free of domestic violence, homelessness, poverty and trauma.”
At the helm of URI for nearly a decade, Fields has led the 41-year old organization through a period of significant growth and expansion in size and impact through comprehensive, trauma-informed programming and innovative approaches to service. Under his leadership, URI has become the largest provider of domestic violence residential services in the US, and a leading service provider for homeless families, with the capacity to shelter 2,200 individuals daily at more than 25 locations across New York City, and to impact more than 40,000 individuals each year through education, prevention, and intervention programs.
This latest award reflects the expertise and achievements that have generated previous recognition for Fields, such as the Crain’s Notable Black Leaders & Executives list, and leadership roles for organizations and councils, including: the COVID-19 Domestic Violence Task Force of the New York State Council on Women and Girls; COVID-19 Response Work Group of the NYC Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence; the Fatality Review Committee of the NYS Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence; the NYC Mayor’s Nonprofits and Social Services Advisory Council; the Board of the Human Services Council; and the NYC Deputy Mayor for Health & Human Services 2020 Nonprofits and Social Services Advisory Council on “reopening” New York City. He has also led the NYC Coalition of Domestic Violence Residential Providers as co-chair for over ten years and was recently named to the Human Services Committee of the transition team for New York City Mayor-Elect Adams.
