Virtual fundraising gala supports critical domestic violence and homeless services and honors four decades of serving NYC’s most vulnerable populations.

New York, October 22, 2020 — Urban Resource Institute (URI), a leading provider of services for those impacted by domestic violence and homelessness, will host its annual fundraising gala celebrating the organization’s 40 years of impact through its first ever virtual gala, taking place on Thursday, October 22 at 6:00pm EST. Staff, friends, funders, and supporters will gather virtually for the event, which is free to attend, to mark a milestone anniversary and share highlights of the innovative programs that URI provides in its mission to uplift and empower New Yorkers in crisis.

“While this virtual event and the entire year looks different than we expected, the unique circumstances of the pandemic only escalate the urgency to provide shelter, safety, and support for our clients impacted by domestic violence and homelessness,” said Nathaniel Fields, Chief Executive Officer of URI. “We celebrate our 40 years of service, innovation, and achievements, while always looking forward at how we can continue to bring the world closer to eliminating domestic abuse and homelessness.”

A concise and inspiring 45-minute celebration will provide a first-hand look at the vital work of URI addressing homelessness and domestic violence prevention, intervention, and services, and will include powerful stories gathered from 40 years of impact, a “look behind the scenes” of URI’s shelter facilities, and moving conversations with URI employees, clients, and donors. The star-studded night will feature participation by notable URI supporters, including:

Comedian Whitney Cummings
Comedian Jackie Fabulous
Actress Annie Potts
Radio and television host Joy Taylor
Actress Aisha Tyler

This year’s gala will be supported by esteemed members of the host committee, including:

Doctor and media personality Dr. Drew Pinsky
ABC News Correspondent John Quinones
Radio and television host Joy Taylor
Actress Aisha Tyler

To share the good work with as large an audience as possible, the virtual program is free to attend, but generous sponsorships and donations of patrons surpassed the evening’s fundraising goal, with net proceeds exceeding past years. These funds raised will support URI’s critical prevention, intervention, and emergency services for individuals and families impacted by domestic violence and homelessness. Among the stellar supporters were Presenting Sponsor Heights Advisors.
