POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Urban Resource Institute (URI), a not-for-profit 501(c) (3) organization established in 1980, operates shelter, legal and job training programs for domestic violence victims, residential and vocational programs for individuals with developmental disabilities. With a $70-80 million annual budget with over 600 staff by the end of the year, URI promotes safety, justice, health, and independence for vulnerable individuals and families residing in New York City.
The Supervisor of Child Care is responsible for development and implementation of a pre-school class room curriculum as well as after school activities for children through age seven (7).
POSITION REQUIREMENTS, EDUCATION & ESSENTIAL SKILLS:
• Supervise Child care staff.
• Design and implement childcare curriculum that provides a structured
• Engage children in therapeutic arts and crafts.
• Attend case conferences to provide input regarding children’s environment.
• Observe and report children’s behavior to determine need for counseling and/or medical services.
• Ensure compassionate, private discussions with children and parents are provided.
• Research and develop recreational activities including field trips.
• Identify child care resources.
• File all paper work as necessary.
• Keep inventory of items in stock in the Child Care Room.
• Prepare required agency reporting documents.
• Develop field trips for children and escort children.
• Order and maintain supplies for Child Care Room.
• Participate in monthly staff meetings.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Social Services of Human Services related field.
• CPR and First Aid Certified
• Three (3) years’ experience working with children.
• Demonstrated sensitivity and experience with and/or knowledge of domestic violence within and against disenfranchised communities including individuals whom identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and/or HIV-affected, the elderly and individuals with mental health issues.
