Angela Thompson to Senior Vice President of Housing Initiatives.
New York, NY | December 12, 2025 — Urban Resource Institute (URI), the nation’s largest provider of domestic violence shelter and a leading provider of homeless family services, today announced the promotion of Angela Thompson to Senior Vice President of Housing Initiatives.
In this expanded role, Thompson will guide URI’s unified housing strategy, overseeing both the Homeless Families portfolio and URI’s growing Supportive Housing division. Her leadership will strengthen the organization’s comprehensive housing continuum and help advance safety, stability, and long-term healing for families across New York City.
Angela Thompson brings more than twenty-five years of executive experience across the nonprofit and government sectors. Her work spans emergency shelter, transitional housing, supportive housing, and affordable housing, along with a deep commitment to trauma-informed practice, equitable access, and long-term resiliency. Thompson has played a central role in advancing URI’s housing work by elevating service quality, embedding inclusive practices, and developing strong leaders across the system.
“Angela is an exceptional, forward-looking leader whose commitment to trauma-informed care, equity, and innovation reflects the heart of URI’s mission,” said Dr. Amanda Eckhardt, Chief Program Officer. “Her strategic vision and strong operational foundation will help guide URI into its next chapter as we expand housing options and strengthen pathways to stability for families across the city.”
Thompson’s leadership is rooted in the belief that housing is a platform for empowerment, dignity, and economic mobility. She has built partnerships with policymakers, public agencies, and cross-sector housing partners to advance solutions that respond to immediate crises while creating long-term pathways toward independence.
“I am honored to step into this role and continue working alongside our dedicated teams,” Thompson said. “Housing creates the foundation for healing. When families have stability, safety, and support, they can rebuild their lives and move toward lasting independence. I look forward to strengthening URI’s housing continuum so every family has the opportunity to thrive.”
This promotion marks a significant milestone in URI’s long-term vision to expand its housing impact through comprehensive services, integrated models, and a unified enterprise strategy that responds to the evolving needs of survivors, families experiencing homelessness, and communities facing instability.
