Angela Thompson
Angela Thompson is the Senior Vice President of Housing Initiatives at Urban Resource Institute (URI), where she provides strategic vision and oversight for housing initiatives that address the full spectrum of housing instability. With more than twenty-five years of leadership experience, Angela has cultivated a career defined by transformational leadership, operational excellence, and a deep commitment to equity, resiliency, and systemic change.
Her experience spans the continuum of housing models: emergency shelter, transitional housing, supportive housing, and affordable housing, while also integrating pathways to economic stability. This breadth of experience transcends into a holistic approach that fosters resilience, empowerment, and long-term independence.
Her leadership style is demonstrated through embedding inclusive and trauma-informed practices, advancing innovation, and cultivating leadership capacity across the housing continuum. This has been demonstrated through the successful design and launch of cross-sector housing initiatives that align policy, infrastructure, and service delivery, as well as through the mentoring of teams to implement trauma-informed frameworks that elevate both resident outcomes and organizational readiness.
She continues to develop strategic collaborations with government agencies, policymakers, and the full spectrum of housing partners to advance comprehensive, sustainable solutions that shape policy and strengthen infrastructure for lasting impact. This macro-level perspective allows her to guide housing initiatives that respond to immediate crises while building pathways to stability and independence.
Angela’s vision embraces housing not only as shelter, but as a platform for empowerment, economic mobility, and community transformation. She has consistently advanced organizational growth by strengthening cross-sector partnerships, embedding trauma-informed practices into housing operations, and elevating standards of care. Her leadership continues to highlight the importance of safe housing pathways and comprehensive support for individuals and families facing instability.
Angela is widely regarded as a visionary and mission-driven executive who motivates teams by maximizing individual strengths and cultivating leadership capacity.
She has managed multi-million-dollar budgets, driven operational innovation, and unified diverse housing portfolios under cohesive, client-centered models. She integrates housing policy knowledge with strategic planning to guide URI’s housing initiatives into their next phase of growth, expanding access, deepening impact, and advancing innovative housing solutions across the housing continuum.
