Urban Resource Institute Welcomes Brandon Lloyd as Director of Government Affairs
NEW YORK, NY (August 13, 2025) – Urban Resource Institute (URI), the nation’s largest provider of domestic violence shelter services and a leading advocate for families experiencing homelessness, proudly announces the appointment of Brandon Lloyd as Director of Government Affairs.
Reporting to Lauren Schuster, Vice President of Government Affairs, Lloyd will help drive URI’s advocacy priorities across all levels of government—providing strategic advice, developing policy, building relationships with elected officials, and leading campaigns to expand resources and protections for survivors. He will oversee legislative tracking, government relations, and compliance, while representing URI in hearings, coalitions, and community events to advance the organization’s impact.
“Brandon is a deeply skilled advocate with a proven ability to build strong relationships and navigate complex political landscapes,” said Schuster. “His experience across multiple levels of government and his passion for justice make him a powerful voice for our mission. I’m thrilled to welcome him to the team and excited for the impact his leadership will have on our advocacy efforts.”
Lloyd brings nearly a decade of experience in public policy, constituent services, and government relations. Most recently, he served as Governor Kathy Hochul’s regional representative in the Lower Hudson Valley, working to serve constituents and build support for statewide initiatives. His career also includes key roles with U.S. Representatives Jamaal Bowman, Nita Lowey, and Eliot Engel, as well as the Westchester County Board of Legislators. In 2023, he was named in City & State New York Westchester 100 list and in Westchester Magazine’s Wunderkinds Class, in recognition of his professional accomplishments and community impact.
“I’m honored to join URI and work alongside such a dedicated team committed to creating systemic change,” said Lloyd. “From my time in public service, I know how critical it is for policymakers to hear directly from those on the frontlines of the fight against domestic violence and homelessness. I look forward to helping elevate those voices, build partnerships, and advance policies that ensure every individual and family can live in safety and dignity.”
Lloyd holds a Bachelor’s degree from George Washington University and is recognized for his commitment to advancing equity, housing justice, and support for vulnerable populations, further strengthening URI’s ability to influence public policy, secure essential funding, and advocate for a future where safety, stability, and opportunity are a reality for all.
