Honoring the Life and Legacy of Deedra Cheatham: A Light That Shines On
Today, we celebrate the life of Deedra Cheatham—survivor, mother, advocate, and beloved member of the URI family. Deedra’s life was a testament of grace and the power of perseverance. Through every trial, she rose with courage, transforming her own struggles into a living testimony of hope, faith, and triumph. She reminded us that even in darkness, there is always a way forward, always a promise of light.
Her calling was clear: to serve others. She lifted survivors of domestic violence, stood boldly for autism awareness, and poured herself into ensuring her community had what it needed to grow and flourish. At URI, Deedra gave of herself with open hands and an open heart, extending strength, comfort, and healing to survivors, their families, and even their pets—because she believed love leaves no one behind.
We give thanks for Deedra’s courage, her advocacy, and the way she lived her life as a vessel of compassion. Her spirit will not be forgotten—it lives on in every survivor she touched, every cause she advanced, and every heart she lifted.
We lift her children in our prayers, that they may be surrounded with love, comfort, and peace, and carry forward the immeasurable strength of their mother’s legacy.
Thank you, Deedra—for always holding URI close, for always carrying survivors in your prayers and your work, and for shining with a light that even now cannot be dimmed.
