POSITION OVERVIEW

The Urban Resource Institute (URI), a not-for-profit 501(c) (3) organization established in 1980, operates shelter, legal and job training programs for domestic violence victims, residential and vocational programs for individuals with developmental disabilities, and residential programs for homeless families. With a $50-55 million annual budget with over 600 staff, URI promotes safety, justice, health, and independence for vulnerable individuals and families residing in New York City. Urban Resource Institute is seeking a self-starter fundraiser to serve as its Development Manager to help take us to the next level. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Development Manager is a Generalist that will co-lead the strategic direction, implementation, and management of the organization’s fundraising efforts.  The core responsibilities of the Development Manager include executing strategies to diversify and grow the organization’s portfolios consisting of individual giving, special events, and institutional giving.  She/He/They will serve as a key member of a small but nimble Development team. This is an ideal opportunity for a seasoned professional with a track record of growing and sustaining financial support from all sources to drive significant impact in support of URI’s mission.

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and refine comprehensive Individual and Major Giving strategies in alignment with URI’s organizational vision and goals
  • Cultivate, steward and close gifts from new and existing individual donors
  • Lead the annual URI Celebration Gala to raise $400,000 by October 31, 2019.
  • Collaborate with all departments, including Programs, Finance, Operations, and Marketing & Communications to obtain accurate data and progress updates required for communication with stakeholders
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of ambitious capital campaigns
  • Administrative maintenance of donor records, including accurate gift entries, timely acknowledgments, and reconciliation with Finance
  • Other duties as requested based on department, organizational need and as directed by the CDO.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Passion for Urban Resource Institute’s mission and core value
  • Bachelors’ degree required
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in a fundraising/Development, and/or Special Events role
  • Currently managing an Individual Giving and/or Major Giving portfolio valued at $500,000 or greater
  • Currently managing large fundraising events with revenue of $400,000 or greater
  • Experience in writing compelling proposals to secure funding from corporations and foundations
  • Currently managing a portfolio of 20 or more institutions with a total value of more than $1.5-million, with experience completing capital campaigns
  • Track record of successfully prospecting, engaging, cultivating, and closing gifts from foundations, corporations, and/or government agencies
  • Exceptional relationship building, influencing skills, writing and communication skills, with the ability to engage and inspire a diverse range of audiences
  • A high degree of cultural competence and belief in the value of diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills along with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize within a fast-paced working environment
  • Experience with Salesforce or Raiser’s Edge
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point), Adobe Acrobat etc.
  • Sense of humor
