The Urban Resource Institute (URI), a not-for-profit 501(c) (3) organization established in 1980, operates shelter, legal and job training programs for domestic violence victims, residential and vocational programs for individuals with developmental disabilities, and residential programs for homeless families. With a $73 million annual budget with over 500 staff, URI promotes safety, justice, health, and independence for vulnerable individuals and families residing in New York City. This is an exciting time in URI’s history, as the organization recently merged with the Center Against Domestic Violence, an organization that works toward a society free of violence and abuse. The combined organization under the Urban Resource Institute umbrella has the capacity to shelter nearly 1,000 women, men, and children at any given time, making it the largest provider of domestic violence shelter services in New York State and the nation. This growth brings many opportunities for growing URI’s private funding and marketing portfolios.
Urban Resource Institute is seeking a self-starter to serve as its Development, Marketing and Communications Assistant to help take us to the next level. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer and SVP, Marketing and Communications, the Assistant is a crucial administrative support role to further the URI’s mission. This is an ideal opportunity for a professional with a special interest to support a fast-paced department and grow with a dynamic and fun team.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS, EDUCATION & ESSENTIAL SKILLS
•Provide assist with the collation of information for marketing material and literature
•Support with the production of marketing materials and literature
•Liaise with graphic designer, web developer and printer for creation and production of content
•Provide support for marketing events
•Conduct market research as needed for the departments
•Assist the Development Department with implementing and managing a comprehensive donor stewardship plan (this includes all forms of donor communication, such as phone calls, as well as written and electronic correspondence)
•Assist in creating and executing annual fundraising and donor engagement strategy
•Ensure streamlined donor engagement by managing the operations of the gift acknowledgment process, including drafting and mailing of donor acknowledgment letters, donor reports, tribute packets, pledge reminders and other periodic donor-centric reporting
•Establish and maintain systems for keeping stewardship program records
•Develop analytics on activities to monitor the success of different strategies; research donor trends and strategies to improve retention and acquisition rates
•Generate reports and manage all fundraising records in Salesforce database, including preparing reports for the Chief Development Officer and Executive Team
•Process daily gifts and reconcile revenue reports with Finance Department
•Record and update donations and donor information in Salesforce
•Provide tax acknowledgments for all donations
•Other duties as requested based on department, program and/or organizational needs.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND EXPERIENCE:
•Passion for the Urban Resource Institute’s mission and core values
•Minimum of 2 years in an administrative support role in fundraising/Development/and/or Special Events and Marketing
•Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications other or related field is required
•Impeccable writer, but also enjoy details and ensuring accuracy in communications, gift processing, and data management.
•Highly motivated, with proven capacity to work independently, take initiative, and thrive in a high-paced entrepreneurial environment
•Proven ability to juggle multiple projects with competing priorities and deadlines
•A high degree of cultural competence and belief in the value of diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences
•Exceptional relationship-building and problem-solving skills
•Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, Salesforce or Raiser’s Edge
