Train Direct Support Professionals on assigned shift. Facilitate the assignment and monitoring of shift assignments to ensure that staff consumer ratios are maintained and tasks are completed consistent with behavioral support plans. Ensure active consumer engagement and provision of quality services consistent with URI and OPWDD standards. Prepare concise written reports including Incident Reports, Residents’ Progress notes and other reports as assigned in accordance with OPWDD and URI expectations. Respond to crisis situations and medical emergencies, including accidents by taking quick and decisive action. Ensure actions are conducted in a manner that prevents abuse and report observations of co-workers who may be abusive in accordance with established procedures. Administer appropriate first aid based on visible symptoms and resident history in accordance with established guidelines and accepted first aid practices. Summon police, fire, ambulance or other emergency personnel if situation warrants it. Assist in the planning, monitoring and carrying out of community inclusion activities. Must possess AMAP, SCIP, CPR and First Aid certifications and a valid New York State Driver’s license.
Basic understanding of Task Analysis and how it is used in the development of the goals/objectives of the individuals diagnosed with intellectual and developmental disabilities being served. Ability to demonstrate/teach the tasks involved in assisting individuals served in achieving their individual goals. Ability to work flexible shifts including overnights, holidays and weekends. Ability to demonstrate, through behavior and supervision, compliance with the National Association OF Direct Support Professionals’ Code of Ethics and the NYS OPWDD Direct Support Professional Core Competencies . This position has the potential for regular and substantial contact with children. High School Diploma or GED required with 3 years of related human services field and minimum of three (3) years’ experience working with individuals diagnosed with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
